GUEST SPEAKER

Daniel Speck, VP Sales and marketing with the Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery gave an extensive speech on the origin of wine in North America, in the Niagara region, and in particular his own vineyard, Pelham.

BOD Meeting Updates

Goals by December 21st active members, new members, funds raised, funds donated, causes supported, total hours volunteered, total projects undertaken, number of organizations supported, speakers, quarterly activities)

New Members: Chialing, Waruna, Charmaine, Bradley, Sasha, Dana and Andrei Lezau to be inducted at Festivus
– Svenja & Kevin (will need to participate further to qualify for membership)

• New members: Chialing, Waruna, Charmaine, Bradley, Sasha, Dana, and Andrei Lezau;
• Svenja & Colin after participation in club projects;
• Executive Announcement:
o James is going to Montreal and will no longer be in Charge of Professional Development
o Anna can no longer serve as Treasurer.
o We are looking for volunteers for these two positions.

Rotary Children's Christmas Party 2010

The Rotary Children's Christmas Party was held on Saturday, December 5th at the Fairmont Royal York, in beautiful downtown Toronto, Ontario.

Rotary Club, volunteers, put on a great Yuletide bash for 80th straight year

Xavier Duquay had the time of his life having a fake snowball fight with Toronto Police at the annual Rotary Club of Toronto Christmas party yesterday.

"The best part was throwing snowballs at the police, but they didn't get me," Xavier, who is 7 and has cystic fibrosis, said while waiting to get his picture taken with Santa.

"I don't know what I'm going to ask Santa for, but I do like race cars."

Xavier was one of 600 people at the party which included children with disabilities and their families.

Rotaract Meeting Minutes Nov. 23, 2009

TODAY’S SPEAKER:

Bert Steenburgh: Bert is in favor of strenghtening the networking between our two clubs. He will send us a list of the GS attending the next Rotary luncheons, in case Rotaractors are interested. We suggested a Rotarian should be appointed to host Rotaractors at their luncheons so that we don’t feel like strangers.

TODAY'S SPEAKER:

Lorna Pitcher: Is a former lawyer, mother of 3 twenty-something daughters and a recently retired elementary teacher. She visited Uganda for 2 weeks in March of 2007 and her fate was sealed: instead of continuing her efforts to bring Global Citizenship into the classroom, Lorna decided her next career would be advocating for her new Ugandan friends.

Membership Drive

The first Membership Drive for the 2009 year was held on November 5th, 2009 at the Vdara Restaurant and Lounge.

Trick or Eat 2009

This year’s Trick or Eat was a resounding success. Eighteen members from the Rotaract Clubs of Toronto, Don Valley and University of Toronto gathered in colourful, varied costumes to collect non-perishable food items from the High Park neighbourhood of Toronto on Halloween night.
