TODAY'S SPEAKER:
Lorna Pitcher: Is a former lawyer, mother of 3 twenty-something daughters and a recently retired elementary teacher. She visited Uganda for 2 weeks in March of 2007 and her fate was sealed: instead of continuing her efforts to bring Global Citizenship into the classroom, Lorna decided her next career would be advocating for her new Ugandan friends.
PROJECT UPDATES:
Membership drive: November 5th at 6:30 PM
* Was a success: about 15 attendees
* A lot of enthusiasm!
* Need to follow up with guest contacts.
* Plan ahead next time and not as close to another event.
Trick or Eat 2009
* Great location!
* Was a success, 2 car loads of food!
* Be on time and have enough people to cover the area where we dropped flyers
International Recipe Calendar
* 13 calendars sold at Rotary meeting. Anna is going to send email to Sarah with money collected.
* Bring calendars you have not sold to the next meeting so that we will have some to display at the Uganda festival
Uganda Cultural Festival: Update
* Fundraising goal: $2,000.00
* When: 11:00 AM on November 28th (volunteers need to be there at 10:00 AM)
* Volunteers: Maria S., Lavinia, Dana, Shannon = more volunteers needed (James, Andre, Donna, Charmaine, Svena, Sasha.)
* Still need raffle prizes
International Convention (Michele Guy):
* June 18-19, 2010 in Montreal
* Lavinia to send registration details to Anna
Treasurer Business: Update
* $1,500 to be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank on Nov. 23 Rotaract meeting
* Wasrag donation $1500 to be presented at Nov.13 Rotary meeting
* $15,000 Foundation money;
o We need to determine how much interest we have earned.
* $1,500 - 2009/10 money;
* Monthly reports starting November;
o Anna needs your $40.00 in membership fees by December, 2009.
Microcredit:
* Sarah reinvested $200, she is going to put together a spreadsheet summarizing our activity for next meeting
