Welcome

GUEST SPEAKER

Daniel Speck, VP Sales and marketing with the Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery gave an extensive speech on the origin of wine in North America, in the Niagara region, and in particular his own vineyard, Pelham.

BOD Meeting Updates

Goals by December 21st active members, new members, funds raised, funds donated, causes supported, total hours volunteered, total projects undertaken, number of organizations supported, speakers, quarterly activities)

New Members: Chialing, Waruna, Charmaine, Bradley, Sasha, Dana and Andrei Lezau to be inducted at Festivus
– Svenja & Kevin (will need to participate further to qualify for membership)

Treasurer & Professional Development Director (Chialing and Andrei would both like to become Treasurers)
1) Andrei has been a treasurer in the past for Rotaract
2)Chialing wasn’t present at the meeting but will be writing an email to present why she should be a good treasurer.
Co-directorship option to be considered by candidates
Professional Development Director
Bradley Hammond would like to become the Professional Development Director

We will have a vote for both of these positions at our next meeting.

PROJECT UPDATES

International Recipe Calendar:
Sales update
International versions – Graham?
5 people voted against doing it.
2 people voted for finalizing the project.
A general email is going to be sent explaining the situation.
Sarah is going to contact Colin regarding learning the software.
After reading an email about an additional calendar publication members should send Shannon an email regarding your opinion either nay or yea. The results will be presented at our next meeting.

A prize for this year’s best selling member
Please respond to Sarah’s request as to how many calendars you sold.

Uganda Cultural Festival
Donation logistics
Alix is waiting to find out from the local Rotaract Club when they will set up a bank account to transfer proceeds.
She is also in contact with a local Rotarian in Toronto who does this on a regular basis.

International Convention:
June 18-19, 2010 in Montreal
Chialing to send charges to Anna/new treasurer for reimbursement

Treasurer Business – Update

1,500 to be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank for 2008/09- Liz R.:
Still waiting for more information
15,000 Foundation money- $800 in accrued interest: Yea
The new treasurer needs your $40.00 in membership fees now (except for Rotary Distr. Conf. participants).
Pay at the next meeting
Lavinia will tell those who went to the district conference precisely how much they owe.

Detailed update to be presented at one of our upcoming meetings;

Write-Ups:
Rotary Children’s Christmas Party: Andre wrote the blurb
Festivus (Sarah will do a write up on Festivus)
It was a great night and the club really appreciates Sarah’s efforts at organizing it.

Clothing Drive
February
February 22nd we will be getting a lot of clothes to donate to Yonge Street Mission.
Maria to send the flyers and think about logistics – vans, pick-up dates and volunteers, etc.

New Opportunities for Community Service (Spring 2010)
Maria has decided to go with Habitat for Humanity in late spring.
It is going to be $50 but half might be covered by our club.
WE NEED A MINIMUM OF 10 PEOPLE TO COME.
Lavinia, Shannon, and Maria have committed.
Details will be worked out as the event draws closer.

Make a Splash
Date and committee
March 13th (World Rotaract Day.)
Sarah has booked the pool.
Kevin, Natallah, Kevin, Alix, Sarah, will form the committee.
Kevin, Kevin, Alix, and Shannon are confirmed as swimmers at present.
There are eight swimming lanes so more swimmers are needed.
Sarah will swim in a bikini for money.
Shannon started a donation fund for this purpose and it is currently at one loonie.

Rotary Youth Award
Liz R. has been invited to join the committee. We have supported a $500 prize in the past and Liz will update.

Amber is having a massive party at her house on Saturday January 23rd. She has put it on her facebook profile.
