Meeting Minutes - Apr. 19, 2010

Welcome – Members and Guests;
Guests: Jim Louttit, Rotary Toronto Sunrise and Marko Carapic, Rotaract Ryerson;

PROJECT UPDATES

International

- Make a Splash – WASRAG donation has been made;
- International Recipe Calendar – tally, funds, donation, prize, international versions by May 3rd – final deadline – Sarah M.; donation at the May 3rd meeting;
- Run for Water – feedback from Alix or Sarah at the May 3rd meeting;
- Tapped – the event has been rescheduled for the end of May – meanwhile, Innis Town Hall or alternative venue to be booked;

Club Service
- Trivia Night – $163 raised and $70 trivia master fee; later start should be considered for future events as well as a larger venue;
- Rally – Maria and Vashti are leading the project to be held on Saturday, July 17th; details to follow;
- Montreal Pre-Convention – 13 participants so far; transportation and events to be booked and paid separately by members; ViaRail has a 60% off promo until April 26th;

Community Service
- Spring event – members have voted and the winner is the ROM and Second Harvest event on June 13th from 4:00PM to 10:00 PM; alternatively members can volunteer at "It's Cool To Be Me 5K Event" by confirming with Amber;
- Trump AIDS Poker Walk – Chialing and Maria – one week prior to event we raised approximately $800; walkers still welcome to join the team; donations welcome as well; volunteer list was sent out to the club discussion board;

Professional Development
- Speakers’ series – upcoming guest speakers; John Fortney would like to speak at one of the upcoming meetings; other potential speakers include Gail and a manager with Rogers (TBC by Liz R. and Waruna respectively);
- Mentorship Program – interested members should try Rotary E-Mentoring before we can kick start our own program; Waruna to circulate details;

Treasurer Business
- $1,500 donation to the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank – at May 3rd meeting;
- $800 cheque from Sandy – cheque deposited;
- Haiti ShelterBox - $600 donation has been made;
- Rotary District Conference fees – all settled;
- Collect membership fee – deadline April 30th;

OTHER
- Rotary Youth Leadership Awards – very interesting candidates with diverse backgrounds and impressive achievements; Rotaract Club of Toronto’s nominee couldn’t attend due to personal matters, but cheque will be handed over by Jayson P. and John F.;
- Fast Lane in The Community – Liz, Andrei and Kevin attended; great event to raise club’s profile e in the community; details for Rotaract focused upcoming event;
- Trump AIDS Poker Walk – Saturday, April 24th;
- Elections 2010-11 – discussed committees and process; handed executives’ mandate description to members; detailed schedule;
- GSE Team 2010 – from India; trying to arrange weekend hosting; Dana mentioned farewell dinner to be held on Thursday at Whistlers; details to follow;
- Camp Scugog 2010 – details to follow via the Rotary Club of Toronto;
- Club logo and business cards – no progress so far; Liz and Chialing are looking into the logo layout; Charmaine to arrange for free/cheap business cards; Maria to design business cards in case we an’t get professional help;
- Write ups: Texas Hold’em - Brad; Trivia Night - Brad; Clothing Drive pics - Alix; Micro credit – Sarah; Fast Lane in the Community – Liz G.; Run for Water?; Rotary Youth Leadership Awards?;
